Why Morningside sounds like this
A celesta climbs while soft strings swell in underneath, then two high notes ring together. Allan Kerr Taylor named Morningside in 1865 after the district in Edinburgh, a name thought to mean "morning slope". The chime takes the name at its word: a small sunrise that starts low and quiet and opens out into light.
Inside the chime
Morningside's chime runs about 4 seconds, in two parts. Every station's chime ends on its family's signature, so you can tell roughly where you are by ear.
