Why Ellerslie sounds like this
A racecourse bugle call runs quickly up and down and ends on a long high note. Ellerslie Racecourse, beside the station, has been the home of the Auckland Racing Club since 1874. The bugle is the call to the post, played as the horses head out for a race.
Inside the chime
Ellerslie's chime runs about 3 seconds, in two parts. Every station's chime ends on its family's signature, so you can tell roughly where you are by ear.
