Why Grafton sounds like this
Glass tones climb and hang in the air while water drips. The Wintergardens glasshouses, in the Domain next door, have grown tropical plants since the 1920s. The chime is the inside of the hothouse: warm, still air and water dripping from the panes. It carries the South chime, since only South-City and Onehunga-West trains still stop here.
Inside the chime
Grafton's chime runs about 4 seconds, in two parts. Every station's chime ends on its family's signature, so you can tell roughly where you are by ear.

The South family's brass 0.8 s
A short brass note, then a longer one a fourth higher. With 21 stations, Grafton and Parnell down to Pukekohe and Manukau, it is the largest family.
