Why Paerātā sounds like this

A bellbird sings over a still morning, and a cow bell clanks twice somewhere far off. Paerātā has long been farm country, and paddocks still stretch out around the new streets of Paerātā Rise, which the station opened to serve. The chime is an early morning out there: birdsong close by and cattle in the distance.

Inside the chime

Paerātā's chime runs about 4 seconds, in two parts. Every station's chime ends on its family's signature, so you can tell roughly where you are by ear.
